Powering Trades is a 16 week fully funded employment training program designed to help people get into a career in the trades. Participants are ideally receiving EI or are underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week). Participants spend 12 weeks at Red Deer Polytechnic trying 5 different trades (electrical, plumbing, welding, pipefitting, carpentry and a few days in Alternative Energy). Participants earn safety tickets and then participate in a 4 week work experience that would ideally lead to a full-time paid job working towards their apprenticeship.
